Setting Up Your SOLIDWORKS License Online

By TriMech on March 26, 2020

If you need to work remotely or want flexibility when you work with your SOLIDWORKS licenses, online licensing might be for you. In this week’s Video Tech Tip, we show you how to convert your SOLIDWORKS license to online licensing.

Online licensing was introduced in 2018 and is available to be used on SOLIDWORKS 2018 and newer updates. It switches the licensing from an activation-based license to a login-based license. This means when you launch SOLIDWORKS, you will be prompted to log in with your SOLIDWORKS username and password. You can install your SOLIDWORKS software on many machines and easily switch from one computer to another by logging in with your email and password. This is the sort of flexibility we have grown to expect – we can use the tools where we want without any hassle.

Login into MySOLIDWORKS The only caveat to online licensing is that you must have internet access to sign in to SOLIDWORKS. Still, after signing in on a machine, you can select offline mode and work while the device is not connected to the internet for up to 30 days.

Switching to online licensing is an easy process that you can do yourself here. Click the Admin Portal in the upper right corner to access your SOLIDWORKS assets. Click the products tab from the top menu bar and then pick the license you wish to convert from machine-based activation to online licensing. Just make sure before you do this, you first deactivate your SOLIDWORKS license.
