The Cutting Edge of Design - Part 4: Subdivision Modeling with xShape

    July 12, 2021

The SOLIDWORKS 3DEXPERIENCE platform can empower you and your team to create impressive designs using a real-time ecosystem that connects people, ideas and data. We're going to show you how that applies to a real-life project with this ongoing series.

Recently in our carving knife handle project, we discussed the connection of those design elements and how this collaborative ecosystem makes project elements available to your whole team. Today, we will be getting into the creation of an ergonomic handle design for our electric carving knife project. As a designer, you will see there are some great tools that it’s hard to do without, one of which is xShape.

The Cutting Edge of Design - Part 3: Making Changes in a Connected Space

    July 9, 2021

Concept, design, simulation and production can all be tasks that involve many professionals of varying areas of expertise to create a successful end result. In our last installment of this project, we established what needs to be done to the assembly using the 3D Product Architect role on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

This time, we will be covering the design and reference of parts and making them available to team members, including industrial designers, machinists and management. We will be using SOLIDWORKS Connected and various other apps in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to complete these tasks.

The Cutting Edge of Design - Part 2: Organizing a Product Structure

    July 8, 2021

As we move forward in our journey creating an electric carving knife handle using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, we will capitalize on the firm foundation built in our previous article using the Project Planner app.

In this article, we will be defining what needs to be done to the assembly, using the 3D Product Architect role on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform. This provides tools to define a product structure outside of a CAD System. It is a perfect solution for project managers who need access to CAD data, but don’t need a full seat of SOLIDWORKS.

The Cutting Edge of Design - Part 1: Project Planner

    July 7, 2021

In this multi-part video series, our goal will be to create and design the ergonomic handle of an electronic reciprocating carving knife. We will be walking you through the concept, design, simulation and production of real product prototypes using 3DEXPERIENCE as the platform to manage all the project personnel and data.

Establishing a centralized plan can significantly increase the success of a project, so we are kicking off the series with how to use the Project Planner app. After all, you can't start successful product development without tasks, people to do those tasks, and milestones for those people to achieve.

The Cutting Edge of Design - Complete Project Series

    July 6, 2021

The idea of using cloud computing for product development is not a new idea. In fact, there are almost as many purported cloud solutions as there are product development processes. With all the opportunities that this technology offers it is easy to see why there's so much excitement around it, but it can be hard to understand how this abstract idea can be applied to a real-world process.

In this multi-part video series, we will be walking you through the concept, design, simulation and production of real product prototypes using SOLIDWORKS and the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. This will give you a great idea of how this tool can empower you and your team to create using a real-time ecosystem that connects people, ideas and data.

Top 11 Features in the Latest 3DEXPERIENCE Update (FD06)

    June 30, 2021

While there are many improvements and new roles in the latest functional delivery in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform (FD06), today we are focusing on the improved features for those that are using the most typical workflows from a mechanical engineer’s point of view.

In my engagement with customers that have been using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, many have yielded similar questions and feedback for features that we have taken for granted on the desktop products. What happens when you want to take a project and duplicate it, or pull up a bill of materials without entering the CAD application? What about the deployment of that software? Do you have a centralized system to push out a standard set of software options for those that are in a collaborative environment?

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer. With that said, this blog is a high-level review of the latest features, and there is much deeper and more comprehensive detail on these attributes and more that you will learn as you work within the platform.

Why You Should Care About Industry 4.0

    June 28, 2021

There comes a point in time where a business, company, or even an entire industry realizes they have the choice to either drive change or get left behind. Industry marches to an ever-faster beat where merely blinking your eyes might miss an entire revolution. Did you blink? We’re already well into the Fourth Industrial Revolution, with the next waiting in the wings. In today’s world, you have to think past tomorrow. So where are we now, how did we get here, and where are we going?

Understanding 6W Tags on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform

    May 24, 2021

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform is your central hub for all things collaboration between you and your team. You can store files, share content and even do some design work all in your internet browser, along with a host of other powerful tools. However, with all of this design and social collaboration, there needs to be a way to filter through it to find a specific piece of information you are looking for. Whether you have been on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform since its launch or you recently joined to follow along with the SOLIDWORKS Forum, you know that one of the most powerful tools at our disposal are the 6W Tags.

15 Ways to Speed Up Your Design Process

    May 3, 2021

Whenever we ask participants in training classes what lessons they hope to take away from the training, the most common question is “How can I design more efficiently?” Using SOLIDWORKS, the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and additive manufacturing can accelerate your process from idea to prototype to product, but it can be hard to know how those tools can can apply to your specific needs and business. We've looked at each of these and pulled out what we feel are the top 15 tips to get you speeding up your design process as soon as possible.
