Missing areas in a 3D scan can result from shiny or reflective surfaces or just areas that the scanner can't get a line of sight to. A good example would be on this jet ski, the underside of the lip of the ski. In this article, we are going to look at the options in Artec Studio to resolve this problem.

Exciting news from Artec this week, with the release of Artec Studio 17. I am excited to share with you my favorite new additions to the software with new features and capabilities. The theme for this year’s release was adding to and expanding on all the great features that Artec added in the previous versions. Let’s look at some of my favorites.

In this blog, we are going to demonstrate how to process 3D scan data using Artec Studio and Geomagic Control X. We are going to scan a control arm that has been cast. It has a machined stud on one end, a pressed-on stud on the other, and a tapped hole that we inserted a bolt into to more precisely capture the void in the threaded hole. We are using the Artec Space Spider for this application because this scanner is perfect for capturing intricate details in high resolution with exceptional accuracy. After scanning the control arm, we will be post-processing and aligning the data using Artec Studio, and creating an inspection report using Geomagic Control X.

In this example, I used my Artec Space Spider to capture a small metal bracket. The Space Spider is a hand-held 3D scanner designed for CAD users and perfect for capturing small objects and intricate details in high resolution.
I have three scans of this small bracket and I’m going to show you how to process these using Autopilot in Artec Studio. This is an easy process because the tool does the work for you.
Today, I will be using a plastic snow shovel to demonstrate how to overcome the challenge of 3D scanning objects with thin walls. Normally, we would scan an object one side at a time while laying flat on the ground then use the Automatic Base Removal tool to take away the floor and automatically match the scans in the software. In this video, I will demonstrate a technique that we can use to help scan thin-walled objects with an Artec scanner and post-process the scan data with Artec Studio.

In this video we are going to be scanning a McDonald’s egg McMuffin from start to finish using the Artec Space Spider. The Space Spider is a high-resolution 3D scanner based on blue light technology. It is perfect for this application because we want to capture the McMuffin in full detail. For this scan, we will use the scanning turntable to easily allow us to capture 360 degrees around the object minimizing the number of setups we have to do.

3D scanning is commonly used for quality assurance and inspection. They provide extremely high-precision scans and provide 3D measurements that are among the best in today’s technology offerings. 3D scanners are extremely valuable tools that offer time and money saving benefits, but sometimes the object being scanned can provide some challenges.

3D scanning is one of the most efficient and easiest ways to capture 3D data. 3D scanners offer accurate data and high-resolution results. In some cases, you may need to use multiple scanners to capture large areas and fine detail.
