With a 3D modeling system like SOLIDWORKS, one of the most important benefits is the ability to see how components fit together. When done correctly, this practically eliminates costly manufacturing mistakes that happen when various elements interfere with one another. The interference detection capabilities of SOLIDWORKS has been a favorite of designers for decades. Now with the SOLDIWORKS 2021 release, interference detection has been greatly improved with the ability to export interferences to an easy to share Excel spreadsheet.

With the addition of the Save Results option to interference detection, you can now save the interference detection results separately. This makes it easy to document your design and collaborate with your team. But you can also take it a step further and include a thumbnail image of each interference. This is all captured automatically with the newly improved Interference Detection tool.

Don't forget Multi-Body Part Modeling
Multi-body part modeling is a standard method for creating designs such as weldments that's very popular for consumer products and industrial designers. In the past, when you needed to look for interference in a multi-body part, the part had to be placed in an assembly first. Remember that as of SOLIDWORKS 2019 the interference detection tool is also available for parts! We did a video on that a couple years ago too.
