SOLIDWORKS Helps ADMET Push the Limits of Simulated Material Testing

This week's Product Story showcases ADMET and their use of SOLIDWORKS and SIMULIA Structural Simulation Engineer (SSE).

Over the past 25 years, ADMET has helped businesses around the world, across a wide spectrum of industries, solve their materials testing challenges. 

The Challenge

ADMET was working with a customer who needed to validate deformation results on a new foam prototype. They tried mesh refinements, simplifications and even reducing the model to 2D, but they reached the limits of what SOLIDWORKS Simulation Premium could do. After creating a test model and setting up their study, they could only get to about 45% of the loading, and spent hours trying to refine the mesh. 


Outcome Using SOLIDWORKS and SIMULIA Structural Simulation Engineer (SSE)

With the new SIMULIA Structural Simulation Engineer (SSE), ADMET was able to leverage the setup from SOLIDWORKS Simulation and unlock a whole new set of advanced simulation tools. Hybrid elements in SSE are very powerful when foam or rubber materials are being used, which helped significantly in this case. With 3DEXPERIENCE added in, they were able to read it directly into SSE and use the native Abacus Solver to run a more successful test. Materials, loads, boundary conditions and mesh settings were all able to be imported so that the project could continue without having to waste time re-configuring the settings in a new program.

Using SSE, ADMET was able to extend the capabilities available in SOLIDWORKS Simulation Premium and obtain the required results needed to validate their foam product. Better still is that ADMET will now be able to repeat the simulation test for virtually any new foams they need.
