Every now and then, a PDM user or vault administrator envisions a usage case that's just a bit outside the current PDM functionality, or possibly in a different wheelhouse altogether. This happens with the newly initiated, as well as software veterans. You'll use a feature and think, "If only there was a button to [insert idea here]."

Built to scale, the new Studio Fleet leverages Studio System+ technology, including a software-controlled workflow and stackable shelving for batch processing. For the first time, on-demand metal 3D printing will deliver accessible and scalable manufacturing that adapts to diverse business needs, part requirements, production volumes and cost constraints.
3D scanning is a powerful tool for designers and engineers. The advantages are clear for many applications when a tool, like the Artec Space Spider, is used to take full color, 3-dimensional scan data of existing objects. Scans like the drill below could be used to reverse engineer the drill’s geometry to create bracketry, packaging material or even can be used to create a new and better version of the same part. Yet many engineers do not consider the power of a 3D scanner as a tool for a Quality Assurance (QA)/Quality Control (QC) application.
As a Pro|e-to-SOLIDWORKS convert, one of the first things I noticed that was vastly different between the platforms was the community. SOLIDWORKS users are simply more numerous, passionate and vocal. This is part of what makes SOLIDWORKS such a great platform! This passion for, not only the products we develop, but for the software itself - drives the direction of the development team which in turn brings hundreds of enhancements to an already feature-rich platform every year.

3D printing has come a long way from where it started. It has made so many advances that it can even help save people's lives. Currently, Stratasys offers (3) different materials that have either been tested by the raw material manufacturer, or by Stratasys, and have some level of compliance.
Many people deal with importing models and translating data back and forth between SOLIDWORKS and other software on a daily basis. Requesting the proper file format for this move is imperative, but can be overwhelming. Read our blog to discover how to avoid errors and learn about the different options.
The question comes up all the time, "How can I model a knurled surface in SOLIDWORKS?"
