Our QA blog series looks at different members of our team and their perspective on the most current 3D printing and CAD technology. This month’s QA features Will Lewellyn and RP Services for FDM parts.

Meet Will Lewellyn, 3D Printing Lab Supervisor

1. Describe yourself in five words or less.

Mr. 3D Printing.

2. What are you most passionate about and why?

With 3D printing, my passion is model making. I enjoy sanding, gluing, painting and crafting intricate models. Outside of work, my family is my greatest passion. My son was recently diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, so that has become my focus at home.

Will's Role at TriMech

3. What is your role at TriMech and your background in 3D printing/RP services?

My role at TriMech is the 3D Printing Lab Supervisor. I work with the RP Services Team and oversee the quoting, printing, post-processing, ordering of supplies and shipping of printed parts to customers. I started 3D printing in 2007 with a company called "Morpheus Prototypes" while I was living in Los Angeles. I started out sweeping floors and worked my way up to manager of the company, handling everything from printing and shipping parts to running machines, making quotes and handling trade shows.

4. Can you tell us what it's like to work at TriMech's Knoxville shop?

TriMech Knoxville Office

TriMech's Knoxville office has two PolyJet printers and three FDM printers. We are usually pretty busy and always running parts. More often than not, all five Stratasys printers are running at the same time. We also have a model shop where we sand, paint and post-process 3D printed parts.

5. What is your favorite thing about working in RP services?

I really love 3D printing at all levels. Since I was a child, making models has always been a passion of mine. When I started printing parts for customers, I found my dream job - making customers happy while working with models.

Having access to the latest technologies from Stratasys ensures that when you 3D print your parts with TriMech, you are using the latest technology to fit your specific application.

7. How do RP services impact the 3D printing industry? Where do you anticipate it going from here?

3D printing services are a great way for people to get hands-on 3D printed models of their designs and build a knowledge and understanding of various 3D printing methods to find the best tool for the job without having to purchase a specific 3D printer. I see the future of 3D printing growing to match or surpass the 2D printing industry. It will become the standard for more than just research and development. It will become ordinary life for a vast majority of people.
