Since its first launch in 2010, DraftSight has been designed to help users create/edit DWG files with powerful CAD tools and functionality. This latest release incorporates survey feedback from millions of DraftSight users and adds the most asked-for capabilities and greater functionality. It also shuffles the deck with regards to the old product portfolio and reallocates both old and new features across a new streamlined suite of products. In this blog, we’re going to take a top-level look at these changes and the new normal for the DraftSight product line.
What’s Different About DraftSight 2019
Based on their customer research, the DraftSight team decided to re-package the entire product portfolio in order to focus on providing users a more custom 2D drafting and 3D design experience that will better fit their needs:

It includes all the time-saving productivity functions, APIs, full technical support, deployment, a network license, full 3D and constraint capabilities that are exclusive to Enterprise Plus version.
Subscription vs. Non-Subscription
With DraftSight 2019, the software has moved to an almost 100% subscription model. Standard, Professional and Premium are only offered as a 12-month subscription which means there is a yearly subscription fee. However, it also means that you will always be running on the latest version with current features and service packs. For these three versions for DraftSight 2019, you can also buy and renew completely online.
For those who still need or would prefer a non-subscription product, there are two Enterprise packages. These come with a choice of 12-month subscription term or a non-subscription term with maintenance upgrade options. Another note is that the Enterprise options require a minimum of two licenses to be eligible for purchase.
What Happened to the Free Version of DraftSight?
With the release of DraftSight 2019 and newly included feature set, the previous free versions are being phased out. The good news is that the new DraftSight Standard pricing is similar to what you would pay for a standard office software suite, like Microsoft Office 365, only you get all the tools to make and access 2D/3D DWG files instead of spreadsheets and slide decks.
According to DraftSight:
If you are using a free version of DraftSight, you may continue to use DraftSight 2018 or previous versions until December 31, 2019. All free versions of DraftSight will cease to run after December 31, 2019.
Are Trial Versions Available for the New Versions?
A 30-day trial of DraftSight 2019 Professional is available upon download and installation. At the end of the trial, if you purchase the software, you simply enter your new serial number to activate the full product. There is not a trial available for every tiered version, but Professional is the most popular, and its robust feature set will give you a good idea of the software and if it is the best fit for your needs.
If you’re an existing user and decide to download and install the free 30-day trial of DraftSight 2019 Professional, or if you purchase any version of DraftSight 2019, you will not be able to redownload any previous free version of DraftSight (2018 or earlier). However, after December 31, 2019, that won’t matter since the free versions will already be phased out.
