3DRender is a role in the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform that includes xStudio, a cloud-based, ray tracing rendering application. 3DRender provides designers with a way to paint their models realistically and get an advantage in marketing competition.
xStudio is very easy to use, and most importantly, it requires no installation. xStudio can run on any device that is connected to the Internet. Like many that have worked with and created renderings, the process can be a very computationally demanding process. This is not a problem with xStudio as all the rendering is off-loaded to the power of the Internet. So, you can keep using your machine for anything you’d like while the rendering is being calculated away from your machine.
Building a rendering in xStudio is very natural. The critical tasks include the application of an ambience, material definition and camera control. When these items are applied amongst each other, a photo-realistic rendering can be achieved.
An ambience is an environment. This not only controls the background in which the model lives but also controls the light sources in the scene. Lights and the ambience help dictate how white the white is, or where reflections are seen in the model. In xStudio, we can work with pre-configured ambience files or generate our own using a separate role. In the image below, we apply an ambience to make the object sit in a particular environment.
Next, we can paint the model, add materials and also define what the appearances will look like. We control the color, the reflection, opacity and other characteristics. While the process is simple, users can efficiently modify and tweak material attributes to create exactly the look they are after. As seen below, the user can easily modify key characteristics to material properties to tweak the scene.
The last critical task would be camera control where users can control how the model is seen in our ambience setting. Again, the ambience is a 360° image of the environment in which the model lives. So, it is important that the user can define the focal length, position, target, depth of field and aspect ratio in a way that the model can be seen correctly with respect to the ambience. As seen in the graphic below, camera control allows tweaking of all of the mission-critical settings.
Now, there are a few features that will improve your experience with xStudio. The user can create multiple scenes, and each scene can control a unique camera, material definitions, and ambiences. This is great as you try to depict different graphical representations of the same physical product. Before going to market, this provides an efficient way to provide options to downstream marketing processes. What does the product look like in red, or blue, or with high contrast or studio ambience?
Next, we will choose what scenes are rendered. Rendering output is instinctive. Users can start multiple jobs and monitor them through the Render Job function. Here, we can output in jpg, png, exr files and account for the alpha channel which will make the background transparent for downstream applications like MS Office or Photoshop. We can also export a 360-degree version, which can publish directly to the 3DSWYM Community platform and others in the community can like or post comments on the rendered image.
With the power of 3DEXPERIENCE, users can generate renderings, save them to the 3DSWYM Community and get instant feedback on their thoughts.
xStudio is a very easy-to-understand app that makes creating photo-realistic images of your products and concepts almost effortless.
