We had an amazing time at 3DEXPERIENCE® World 2020 and in the blink of an eye it was over! Today, everyone was very excited during the general session as multiple Dassault Systèmes partners shared some of the neat projects and ideas they are working on. It really is exciting to see how these companies and individuals are coming up with new products that are impacting our world.

Artificial computer-simulated environments give users the feeling of being in a different dimension instead of the one they’re actually in. The idea is to trick the brain into thinking that that’s your new reality. In the new extended reality (XR) file type in SOLIDWORKS 2019, you’ll have an amazing new way to experience your designs. SOLIDWORKS XR describes the process of viewing and interacting with your models in augmented reality, virtual reality or mixed reality experiences.

Prior to the SOLIDWORKS 2018 updates, you were capable of saving a SOLIDWORKS assembly as an SMG file, however, there were no export options for SMG files and the default export option was set to exclude surface bodies. Due to this, users preferred to open SOLIDWORKS file directly through Composer, where import options can be customized as they need. Since the SOLIDWORKS 2018 updates, new SOLIDWORKS export options for SMG files have been added that allow full control over what information is saved to SOLIDWORKS Composer. These new options provide many advantages to Composer users that will be explained in this blog.
The third day of SOLIDWORKS World 2019 began with a unique approach to the general session. Unlike the traditional general sessions where every attendee gathers to watch the speakers on the main stage, day three of SOLIDWORKS World 2019 began with three concurrent general sessions, allowing participants to dive into the topic of their choice. Here’s a brief description of the three fascinating general sessions made available to attendees.

It’s the holiday season and many of us are getting into the spirit by decorating our homes and escaping the cold. In this blog, I’ll be using a clever method of combining projects in SOLIDWORKS Visualize to quickly transform an empty living room into a warm and cozy winter escape that we’ll bring to life with a rendering.
I recently paid a visit to my old stomping grounds, Smithfield High School in Rhode Island. It was my intention to catch up with my original CAD teacher, as I wanted to learn how his students are using SOLIDWORKS. What I expected to be a two hour visit, ended up being an entire day. I met with three STEM classes and even taught one! It was great to work with these up-and-coming SOLIDWORKS designers and learn about how they are using 3D CAD for their class projects. Below are some of my experiences with these different classes.

With the snow coming down we thought it would be the perfect time to show off SOLIDWORKS Composer and how it can be used to create an interactive animation assembly. In the on-demand webinar below, I demonstrate this by using the software to assemble a 3D printed snowflake from four unique components.

To honor those who have served our United States Armed Forces this Veteran’s Day, I’ve modeled the Anthem Veterans Memorial, located in Arizona, which has a unique feature that is perfect to demonstrate the scene lighting and animation capabilities of SOLIDWORKS Visualize Professional. To do this yourself, read our tutorial and watch the full demonstration in our video!
SOLIDWORKS Visualize can show off your designs with photo-realistic renders, even when it comes to rendering transparent liquids. To demonstrate the beauty of such a realistic rendering of liquids, see how we created the perfect margarita glass step-by-step to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.
