What is SOLIDWORKS Composer and How Does it Work?

    June 13, 2022

So, what is SOLIDWORKS Composer and how can it be utilized to improve your overall design and engineering process? This is the question that we will seek to answer in this blog. Generally, Composer is a highly capable illustration software that directly utilizes your 3D CAD to quickly ‘compose’ imagery, video and interactive content to serve a variety of needs in a company. You can think of it as a 3D PowerPoint for your SOLIDWORKS models, where you use simple tools to create crisp visuals to convey information about your designs. As an engineering tool, Composer is purpose built to communicate technical information in the clearest way possible. As it turns out, this lends to quite a variety of use cases.

Happy Cinco de Mayo from TriMech

    May 5, 2022

There are many reasons to celebrate as we head into the last stretch of the Spring months. For most of us in the northern US and Canada, we look forward to the Spring bloom, warming weather and spending more time outside! One of our favorite Spring holidays is Cinco de Mayo, so we’ve put together a fun animation of ‘Dancing Margaritas’ to kick off the celebration!

Hidden Gems in SOLIDWORKS 2021 and Later

    August 9, 2021

Each year at TriMech, we painstakingly review each of the new SOLIDWORKS features and enhancements that are delivered with the latest release. We read through the documentation and pick out the best content so you don’t have to! Earlier this year, TriMech released the ‘Top 11 Features in SOLIDWORKS 2021’ to share a portion of these improvements, but there are a few more hidden gems in 2021 that you should know about! This blog will review some of the lesser-known enhancements released with SOLIDWORKS 2021.

A Design Review with Virtually Real Prototypes

    June 14, 2021

Virtual prototyping is the simple concept of using photorealistic rendering tools to bring your 3D models to ‘life’ in the form of images, animations and immersive VR/AR formats. For many components in many industries, it is important to have a means of reviewing your design concepts before investing your time and money in physical prototypes. In the world of aftermarket car parts, it would be very useful to assess how components will look on the car in the early stages of design, before committing to any fabrication. The development of aftermarket parts, like custom sport car spoilers, is much more efficient when aesthetics can be confidently assessed using 3D models.

In this blog, we will produce virtual prototypes of various sports car spoilers in the form of photorealistic images to determine which style of spoiler looks best. This blog runs through the process of developing, organizing and producing the virtual prototypes using SOLIDWORKS and SOLIDWORKS Visualize Professional.

Top 4 Ways to View Your SOLIDWORKS Files in a Virtual Space

    September 17, 2019

Artificial computer-simulated environments give users the feeling of being in a different dimension instead of the one they’re actually in. The idea is to trick the brain into thinking that that’s your new reality. In the new extended reality (XR) file type in SOLIDWORKS 2019, you’ll have an amazing new way to experience your designs. SOLIDWORKS XR describes the process of viewing and interacting with your models in augmented reality, virtual reality or mixed reality experiences.

Best Practices for Using the New Composer Export Options in SOLIDWORKS

    July 2, 2019

Prior to the SOLIDWORKS 2018 updates, you were capable of saving a SOLIDWORKS assembly as an SMG file, however, there were no export options for SMG files and the default export option was set to exclude surface bodies. Due to this, users preferred to open SOLIDWORKS file directly through Composer, where import options can be customized as they need. Since the SOLIDWORKS 2018 updates, new SOLIDWORKS export options for SMG files have been added that allow full control over what information is saved to SOLIDWORKS Composer. These new options provide many advantages to Composer users that will be explained in this blog.
