A Closer Look at the V650 Flex Printer from Stratasys

By TriMech on June 23, 2020

The Stratasys V650 Flex brings outstanding upgrades to the capabilities of Stereolithography 3D printing. Imagine the versatility of choosing your own materials with the only open-material system from Stratasys. With 2x the print capacity of competitor's models, open-material system capabilities and faster prototyping, you will not have to choose between quantity and quality. This powerful addition has a small footprint and will continue to print even if the power goes out.

What makes Stratasys V650 Flex stand out?

Stereolithography, or “SL”, is a proven 3D printing process where a vat of photo-cured resin is selectively cured by an ultraviolet laser. This process allows for the production of parts with high accuracy and impressive surface finishes. Traditional SL 3D printers operate on a closed-system, which means you can only use the materials and print controls that are licensed to that machine by the manufacturer. The V650 Flex operates as an open-material system - which is new to the Stratasys 3D printer line up. This open configuration allows the operator complete control over settings and material options.

Beyond complete customization, the V650 Flex is built for reliability with multiple years of testing and unfailing output, time after time. Even during a power outage, this machine will continue to print without interruption. Do you need to re-start? No problem, the V650 Flex will pick up at the precise moment it stopped.

Here are just a few of the outstanding attributes that set the Stratasys V650 Flex apart:

  • Highly Configurable
  • Built for Reliability
  • Reduced Downtime
  • Finer Details
  • Smaller footprint with industrial-size capacity

How Does the Open-Material System Work?

Typical closed systems work with limited material choices and print controls which traditionally leads to lower reliability of a machine. The V650 Flex broadens your capability, without compromising reliability, to fine-tune prints based on your specific applications with the open sourced system. This configurable, large-scale printer is ideal to bring your projects to life without restrictions on materials and settings to give the operator full control.

What Materials work with the V650 Flex?

This open-vat system allows you to use any 355nm resin you choose. Within the SolidView build prep software, you can change over 150 parameters to adjust your SL parts exactly as you need them. Although the open-material system is sure to excite those eager to test out other materials, Stratasys has created a pre-verified range of resins from DSM’s Somos product line to ensure productivity, efficiency and reliability of the V650 Flex SL 3D printer.

Fine-Tuned Materials:

  • Somos® NeXt- Thermoplastic meets stereolithography without losing the look, feel and heat-resistance

  • Somos® PerFORM- Made for projects that require strong, stiff, high-heat-resistant composites in great detail

  • Somos® Watershed XC 11122- A clear material with ABS and PET-like properties for stereolithography

  • Somos® Element- Perfect for investment casting patterns

The ability to choose any resin and produce a mass quantity of prints without compromising quality makes the V650 Flex standout from the existing SL offerings on the market. Build high-resolution models with fine features and a smooth finish in smaller footprint with the Stratasys V650 Flex.
